Wayne M. Pierce, 88, of Longwood, Florida and Springfield, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019. He was born on March 15, 1930 in Gage, Oklahoma.
Wayne was predeceased by his loving wife Carole Lorene Pierce. He is survived by his son, Richard Pierce; son, Randall Pierce; daughter, Karen Lindsay (husband, Sean); daughter, Katherine L. Lischke (husband, Thomas); brother, Steven Pierce (wife, Betty); and granddaughter, Brigid Lorene Lischke.
Wayne devoted much of his life to his work with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, starting as a carpenter, transitioning to conflict resolution at job sites all over the west coast, and eventually rising to the position of General Treasurer for the union until his retirement. He worked tirelessly to secure stability and job quality for the members protected by the union, both in setting internal policies to benefit them and lobbying Capital Hill to advocate for bills in the best interest of the membership.
After retirement, Wayne was an avid golfer and frequent participant in the Sandbaggers golf club activities around Northern Virginia. He and his wife, Carole, also opened an antique business in the DC metro area. Operating under the name Carole's Antiques, they were frequent sellers at antique shows and in antique malls in the area. They operated the business until Carole's passing in early 2018 at the age of 83.
